Oklahoma Municipal Clerks, Treasurers, and Finance Officials Association Annual Conference
57th Annual Conference
Passport to Excellence
Oklahoma State University | Wes Watkins Center, Stillwater
October 23–25, 2013 | Pre-Conference, October 22, 2013
Dear OMCTFOA Members:
Here is your boarding pass to a 3 day, all fun filled excursion to the 57th Annual Conference of the Oklahoma Municipal Clerks, Treasurers and Finance Officials in Stillwater, OK, from October 23 – 25. This year’s conference theme is “Passport to Excellence.” It is the Board’s desire that the conference be a gateway for you to continue your individual quest for excellence, both professionally and personally.
In an effort to help you navigate through your quest, the Board has pulled together another year of worthwhile sessions. The pre-conference sessions, Tuesday, October 22, and Wednesday afternoon sessions, qualify for institute credits. I want to encourage everyone to attend the institute sessions, even if you are not seeking the professional designations. Budgeting, legislative update and best practices are topics that affect each of us regardless of the population in your community. Marcy Twyman and Brenda Wright, CPA’s with Crawford and Associates, provide a unique insight as they have been finance directors and auditors/consultants for various cities. Yes, they feel your pain! Now, they will tell you how to manage the pain.
The ship sails Wednesday morning with a keynote address from Michael Crawford, CPA. Most of us know and have heard Michael speak on accounting issues. You now have the opportunity to hear him speak on a personal level with his “Living A Life Worth Living” dialogue.
Today, it seems that everything you hear and read violates the ethical composition this country was founded on. Michael provides an ethical framework for our everyday living.
Thursday and Friday are full of exciting sessions intended to motivate you on your voyage to excellence. We encourage you to engage in discussions with the various professionals, speakers, vendors and attendees in hopes of gaining insight and empowerment to take back to your community so that you may better serve your citizens.
All good voyages must include fun, food and entertainment. The OMCTFOA Board in conjunction with the Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group plan to deliver a Thursday evening banquet to remember. We are excited to announce that the “Stars”, a local favorite band in OKC, will be back again this year to entertain us. The theme, Passport to Excellence, along with decorations from various countries will set the atmosphere for the evening.
You are invited to wear any type of attire from any country. The goal is set for comfort and don’t forget your dancing shoes. Yes, prizes will be given throughout the evening. Please plan to come and enjoy yourself. This is also an excellent opportunity for networking with attendees and vendors.
It has been a privilege serving as your President for 2013. The board stepped up to the plate and hit it out of the park. It has been a rewarding experience working with the board members on the planning and commitment made to the 57th Annual Conference. I would encourage each of you to think about what you can give back to the profession. There are numerous opportunities, one of which would be serving on the OMCTFOA Board.
Thank you for supporting the OMCTFO Association. I look forward to seeing you in October.
Judy Siemens, OMCTFOA President
Finance Director – Midwest City
