OSU and CREC to launch LeadershipSource Series for Professional Development

STILLWATER, Okla. - Community and business leaders across Oklahoma will have a unique opportunity to receive practical training to address the daily challenges of today’s rapidly changing business environment. The Center for Executive and Professional Development in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University have partnered for the second year in a row with Central Rural Electric Cooperative to present the LeadershipSource Professional Development Program.

The training involves six sessions from 2:30-4:30 p.m. targeted for community/business leaders and registration is open to the public. Each seminar will be held at the CREC Training Center in Stillwater and is also available through distance learning.  The series will start Thursday, August 14th, from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. with the topic, “Create and Manage Customer Value for Business Success,” and will continue through March of 2009.  

“Central Rural Electric Cooperative is very proud to partner with Oklahoma State University, Spears School of Business, in this the second year of LeadershipSource University.  We feel that this partnership will allow us to further develop our relationships with community leaders and will continue to develop our employees' and others' leadership abilities” stated David Swank, CEO of CREC in Stillwater.  “This will be an exciting year with new and interesting developments within LeadershipSource University and LeadershipSource.coop.  We invite all interested parties to enroll in the seminars and join us in developing our leadership relationships” added Swank.

Dynamic and experienced faculty from the Spears School of Business are Drs. Lee Manzer, Ken Eastman, Karen Flaherty, Mac McCrory, Jim Pappas, and Craig Wallace will lead the sessions. These programs will share practical insights to enhance your business performance, organizational effectiveness and ability to gain employees’ confidence.

Seminar topics include:, “Create and Manage Customer Value for Business Success,” on August 14; “Storytelling to Enhance Organizational Performance,” on September 25; “Developing Innovative Middle Managers,” on November 6; “Leadership:  Good to Great,” on January 29, 2009; “Ethics in Today’s Business World,” on February 12, 2009; and “Motivation to Lead, Motivation to Follow,” on March 12, 2009. “We had between 35-65 registrations per event this past year and we are very excited about the community and the way they have embraced these sessions by participating in class discussions having interactivity, questions, and discussing applicability to work,” noted Dr. Julie Weathers, Director, OSU Center for Executive and Professional Development.

Seminars are priced individually, but a discount is offered for those who sign up for all six. Those who complete all six sessions will also receive Leadership Series certificates.
